About the Project
ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) is the state-owned oil company of the United Arab Emirates, engaged in exploration, production, and refining of oil and gas. TAMS (Turnaround Management System) is a smart enterprise application for administration and optimization of oil manufacturing processes.
The Challenge
Develop the design for a smart TAMS application in collaboration with IBM engineers and Accenture consultants. The system covers administration and optimization of oil manufacturing processes, risk accounting, and workforce planning.
My Role
Lead Designer overseeing all design aspects of the TAMS application, from information architecture to visual design. Coordinated with multiple vendor teams and ensured design consistency across all modules.
Process
Information Hierarchy & Navigation
Conducted deep analysis of information hierarchy across oil manufacturing processes. Designed the core navigation structure that allows operators and managers to efficiently access relevant data across complex organizational structures and asset hierarchies.
User Journey Mapping & Requirements
Created comprehensive user journey maps for different roles — plant operators, maintenance managers, risk assessors, and workforce planners. Translated these journeys into functional requirements that guided the design of each system module.
UI Component Library & Brand Adaptation
Adapted and extended an existing UI component library to meet ADNOC's enterprise requirements and brand guidelines. Ensured all components supported complex data-dense interfaces while maintaining visual clarity and ADNOC's corporate identity.
Key Deliverables
Delivered a comprehensive set of modules: executive dashboards with real-time KPIs, mobile adaptation for field workers, asset management interfaces, step-by-step wizards for complex planning tasks, and AI integration (Cold Eye) for predictive risk analysis.
Results
Delivered a system that enabled faster task execution and improved overall productivity for ADNOC's turnaround operations. The intuitive design reduced the learning curve for new operators. Systematic risk management capabilities were integrated with existing SCADA/ERP systems. Created a reusable UI asset library that accelerated development of subsequent modules.
Key Learnings
Gained deep experience working with enterprise-scale oil & gas operations, understanding the critical importance of safety and reliability in industrial UI design. Learned to coordinate effectively across multiple vendor teams (IBM, Accenture) with different working methodologies and cultural backgrounds.
