About the Project

HARVESTER is a demo application promoting an EPAM tool for determining solution architecture and calculating energy extraction from the environment. It provides engineers and architects with actionable insights for IoT energy harvesting projects.

The Challenge

Create a vision for a unified solution for pre-sales preparation and actual design of energy harvesting systems. Provide original content and visual solutions for complex engineering case studies.

My Role

Senior Designer responsible for close collaboration with engineering, product vision development, feature prioritization, and translating complex technical concepts into intuitive user interfaces.

Process

Feature Prioritization

Established a three-tier prioritization framework categorizing features as essential, important, or optional. This allowed the team to focus on delivering core value first while planning for progressive enhancement of the platform.

User Scenarios & Case Studies

Developed detailed user scenarios and created three comprehensive case studies covering different environments — indoor, outdoor urban, and remote/industrial. Each case study demonstrated unique energy harvesting patterns and architectural decisions.

Real-Time Sensor Data Integration

Designed interfaces for real-time sensor data visualization, creating intuitive dashboards that display energy harvesting metrics, environmental conditions, and system performance indicators in an easily digestible format.

Custom Iconography

Designed and produced over 40 custom icon elements representing various energy sources, sensors, architectural components, and environmental factors. Created a cohesive visual language that made complex engineering concepts accessible to non-technical stakeholders.

Results

Delivered a comprehensive design system, established an effective design process, and assembled a cohesive team. Created a polished promo site alongside the product-focused solution with a scalable design system that could accommodate future feature expansion.

Key Learnings

Learned the value of modular progressive planning when dealing with complex engineering domains. Developed skills in effective communication with engineers, translating technical requirements into design solutions. Established scalable design processes that could grow with the project.
